I have been drooling over beautiful pictures of duck egg blue hutches for weeks now. Seriously, they are all over my Furniture Inspirations pinboard on Pinterest. So, I was so excited when I ran into this beautiful huge hutch. I knew immediately what I wanted to do with her!
I used a beautiful color by Martha Stewart (I’ll find the name and put it on here soon) to paint the back. I also added bead board because I feel like it makes everything better. Then I painted the rest in a nice coat of creamy white mixed with Blue Minerals Chalk Paint Powder to get a nice Chalky finish. I also waxed the entire thing with Fiddes Supreme Wax in Clear.
Then I glazed the entire thing using this glazing technique.
Now for the splurge. I found these gorgeous Anthropology inspired knobs on eBay. They matched perfectly and worked so well with the gold knobs I just had to have them. They were a bit more than I like to spend on hardware, but I love the way the accent the colors.
She also came with these little inserts you can put into the windows. I wasn’t sure what to do with them, so I decided to leave it up to the new owner. I think the natural wood adds a lot of character to the piece, but without looks so simple and classic, I just couldn’t decide.
I love the blue color in this hutch. It just has so much character and I’m so sad to see it go. It’s currently listed in the White Cottage Shop.
Now to get started on this bad boy….
